Chocolate, grapes and even lilies are among various well-known dangers to dogs . But you might not be aware of another, often-overlooked threat that could put our pets at risk - and it's scattered across roads everywhere.
According to the RSPCA , the culprit is rock salt - a gritty mixture generally used to de-ice roads and paths in colder weather. While it efficiently turns snow and ice into slush, it is a ' common winter poison ' for dogs that may cause distressing symptoms if ingested.
"It’s difficult to say how much needs to be eaten for signs of toxicity to be seen, even a small amount of pure salt can be very dangerous," the RSPCA explains online . "Ingestion can result in a high blood sodium concentration which can cause thirst, vomiting
