PEORIA ( 25News Now ) -A group of Peoria police officers and firefighters spread some holiday cheer on Saturday.

Peoria’s Afro African Police League and Afro American Firefighters Association hosted their 30th annual Children’s Christmas Party.

Thanks to donors and a local movie theater, the groups provided a special day for local kids.

Children and parents enjoyed a movie, popcorn, and received a toy. Parents also received a gift card of $100 to an Aldi grocery store.

This year, the effort expanded. Partnering with Peoria Public Schools, they identified struggling families with children ages two to 17 who needed help this holiday season.

Organizers say these events are crucial for building trust and showing community support.
