JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Community members in the Sandalwood area of Jacksonville said they're stunned after a deadly shooting Friday night that left one person under 18 dead and two others hospitalized, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Neighbors said the violence was shocking for a community they describe as quiet and peaceful.
“I was in my living room watching TV. At first, I thought it was a firework,” Grace Lim said, who has lived nearby for over 4 decades.
“You know how when they get a big string of firecrackers, and they light them off … that was kind of how it was,” Joy Wallace, a longtime resident since 1989, added.
Surveillance footage provided by a neighbor showed multiple gunshots around 9 p.m., including a man staggering past a stop sign before turning and firing
