Hackensack (1-0) took over in the third quarter, outscoring Paterson Kennedy 26-9 to take a 41-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
Paterson Kennedy cut the lead with a 19-12 fourth quarter as Hackensack held on to win.
BJ De Los Santos scored nine points for Hackensack while Quadir May had eight points.
Ayden Booker recorded a 23-point, 13-rebound double-double for Paterson Kennedy with three assists. Jawan Harrison scored 11 points.
