Echo Canyon Trail at Camelback Mountain reopened at sunrise Sunday morning following an extended closure for safety and stabilization work.
The trail was closed in mid-October after storms caused erosion, creating unstable conditions, including three loose boulders along the trail.
The city consulted with geotechnical and civil engineers and developed a plan to stabilize the loose boulders “and injecting them with expanding grout, enabling them to safely separate,” a release stated.
Visitors may still see construction work along portions of the trail. Final work is underway to install safety cables, replacing the existing rope that guides hikers along the trail, city officials said.
