Virgil van Dijk has revealed he has told Mohamed Salah he wants him to stay at Liverpool. But the Reds captain admits he is unsure what the future has in store for the Egypt international on the other side of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah started three successive fixtures on the bench prior to Tuesday night's 1-0 Champions League win at Inter , where he was left at home on Merseyside for speaking out after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road a few days previously when he was an unused substitute.

In a remarkable post-match interview , the 33-year-old said he had been "thrown under the bus" by the club
