ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A woman is dead after what the Robeson County sheriff called a “senseless act.”
A news release from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said that emergency medical services were called Saturday to Chavis Road in the Maxton area for a medical emergency.
EMS took a man, Cheyenne Woods, 36, of Red Springs, to the hospital when Woods flashed a gun at two EMS workers and stole the ambulance, according to the sheriff’s office.
Woods was then involved in a collision with another vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
Woods got out of the ambulance, went up to the other vehicle and allegedly shot Marie Locklear, 74, of Red Springs, who later died.
Sheriff Burnis Wilkins called the case deeply disturbing and frustrating due to Woods’s criminal history.
