A four-year-old child drowned in a residential swimming pool in Beauharnois, in the Montérégie, on Thursday evening.
Emergency services were notified around 8:30 p.m. that a child was in cardiorespiratory arrest after falling into the pool for a reason that remains unknown.
"Attempts at resuscitation were made on the victim, who was transported in critical condition to the Anna-Laberge hospital in Châteauguay, where he was pronounced dead," explained Constable Marc-Olivier Chatelois, spokesperson for the Châteauguay police force, which serves the municipality of Beauharnois.
A police investigation was launched to determine the circumstances that led to the drowning. As of Friday morning, police were not speculating as to the cause, stating that the investigation was still ongoing.
