Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday ordered Texas hospitals enrolled in Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program to report the costs they incur for treating undocumented immigrants.

In a news release that contained a link to his executive order, Abbott blamed the Biden administration's immigration and border security policies for any health care-related costs that are passed on to taxpayers.

“Due to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ open border policies, Texas has had to foot the bill for medical costs for individuals illegally in the state,” Abbott said without directly pointing out that Harris is now the presumptive Democratic nominee for president. “Texans should not have to shoulder the burden of financially supporting medical care for illegal immigrants."
