GONZALES, La. (WAFB) - A man accused of killing two people, including a Louisiana state trooper, has changed his plea.
Prosecutors had planned to seek the death penalty for Matthew Mire, the suspect in the multi-parish crime spree that took place in October 2021.
Mire was instead sentenced to two life sentences plus 348.5 years in prison during a court hearing in Ascension Parish Thursday morning, July 10.
He agreed to a plea agreement in order avoid facing a death penalty trial.
Mire was sentenced for the murders of Louisiana State Trooper Adam Gaubert and resident Pamela Adair. 152 years of his sentenced came from crimes he committed in Livingston Parish. As part of the plea agreement, he will have to appear in Livingston Parish at a later date to formalize sentencing there.
