ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — A Shiprock man has been charged in connection with a kidnapping and a series of violent assaults. Darrin Begay, 33, faces up to life in prison if convicted, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico.
Court documents show Begay allegedly assaulted an individual by punching, kicking, and strangling them at a home within the exterior boundaries of the Navajo Nation around June 30. This left the person with visible injuries to their face, neck, and arms.
Around July 2, Begay allegedly went back to the person's home and threatened to harm their family members. He forced the victim into a vehicle, drove them away, then reportedly assaulted them again before pushing them out of the vehicle and leaving them on the roadside.
