Law enforcement agencies in Madison County joined forces to address excessive speeding on I-565 on Monday.
The Huntsville Police Department, Madison County Sheriff's Office, and Madison Police Department collaborated in a targeted radar operation to promote safer driving.
“This isn’t just about speeding – it’s about the very real consequences of reckless driving,” said Huntsville Police Chief Kirk Giles. He emphasized the importance of their Summer Slowdown initiative in changing driver behavior to prevent tragedies.
During the operation, officers and deputies focused on the stretch from Wall Triana Highway to Chapman Mountain. In just more than six hours, they stopped more than 140 vehicles, issued 104 citations, and gave 79 written warnings. One driver was caught speeding at 97 mph.
