EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A mother is in custody facing neglect charges after an investigation into a car accident from May.

Evansville police say officers responded to an accident with injuries at the intersection of Garvin and Taylor Avenue on May 31.

Upon arrival, officers found a young child with injuries to their head and face.

The child's mother, Brittany Whitman, was trapped in the vehicle with a broken leg.

Whitman admitted to officers that she had been drinking.

Three other juveniles were found outside the vehicle with minor injuries.

Whitman was arrested on Thursday and booked on multiple charges, including neglect and operating while intoxicated.

Her bond has been set at $20,000.
