Plenty of animals are on display this week during the Mesa County Fair: pigs, chickens, cows, goats, rabbits.

And sharks.

Two nurse sharks, 10-year-old Rosita and 12-year-old Abby, have provided entertainment during thrice-daily shows during the fair.

On Thursday, onlookers filled bleachers and the surrounding area in front of a semi-trailer containing a large tank before the 1:30 p.m. shark encounter, put on by a company called SeaLand Encounters.

A large inflatable shark head resembling a Great White Shark or Megalodon was next to the gathered crowd, letting people know where the sharks were.

According to a sign at the show area, nurse sharks can grow up to 12 feet in length and are usually docile but will attack if provoked.
