The Justice Department on Friday requested a federal court to unseal grand jury transcripts related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, as scrutiny intensifies over the Trump administration's handling of records tied to the disgraced financier.

Attorney General Pam Bondi 's top deputy, Todd Blanche, submitted the motion to unseal the Epstein transcripts, as well as those in the case against convicted British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell , just one day after President Donald Trump publicly directed the department to take that step.

The administration has faced mounting criticism since the Justice Department announced last week that it would no longer release additional evidence from its investigation into Epstein, sparking backlash from lawmakers and advocacy groups.
