A sweeping rescissions bill has made its way to President Donald Trump's desk, in part canceling $1.1 billion in federal funding for public broadcasting.

The cuts target the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which allocates funds to more than 1,500 public TV and radio stations across the U.S., including 10 in New Mexico.

These cuts are set to impact public media in larger cities like Albuquerque and Santa Fe, as well as smaller and more rural areas such as Alamo, Dulce, and Portales.

Trump and supporters like Republican Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Amy Barela argue that public media disseminates politically biased information, calling it an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.
