An off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent was shot late Saturday night in Fort Washington Park, located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. The incident occurred just before midnight, around 11:51 p.m., as the 42-year-old agent and a female companion were sitting by the Hudson River.

According to police sources, two armed men on a moped approached the pair. After a brief confrontation, one of the suspects fired a weapon, striking the agent in the face and arm. In response, the agent drew his own firearm and returned fire, hitting one of the assailants as they fled the scene.

The agent was transported to Harlem Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Authorities reported that he is expected to survive his injuries. Meanwhile, the wounded suspect sought medical attention at a hospital in the Bronx and is currently in police custody.

Law enforcement officials have taken one person of interest into custody in connection with the shooting. They are investigating whether this individual was involved in the attempted robbery. A second suspect may still be at large, but details remain unclear.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, with authorities looking into the possibility that it was an attempted robbery. This incident follows a recent shooting involving Border Patrol agents in McAllen, Texas, where a gunman opened fire at a federal building.

As the investigation continues, police are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
