A suspect is in custody following the shooting of an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent late Saturday night in a New York City park. The incident occurred at 11:51 p.m. in Fort Washington Park, located beneath the George Washington Bridge in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

Authorities reported that the 42-year-old agent was shot in the face and arm during what is believed to be a robbery attempt. The agent, whose name has not been released, was quickly transported to Harlem Hospital for treatment. Officials stated on Sunday that he is expected to survive his injuries.

In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators from the New York Police Department were seen searching the area for evidence near the Little Red Lighthouse, a notable landmark in the park. Police have detained one individual and are working to determine their involvement in the incident. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, but law enforcement is exploring the possibility that it was related to a robbery.

This shooting follows another recent attack involving Border Patrol agents. Earlier this month, on July 7, a man opened fire at the entrance of the Border Patrol sector annex at McAllen International Airport in Texas. In that incident, 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda allegedly fired multiple shots at the federal facility, injuring two police officers and a Border Patrol staff member. The investigation into the motive behind the Texas shooting is ongoing.
