The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled around five million above-ground pools after concluding that they were connected to the drowning deaths of children.
The pools covered by the July 21 recall were sold at multiple retailers, including Walmart, Target, Costco and Amazon under brand names Bestway, Coleman, Intex and Polygroup, according to a release from the government agency .
The CPSC said in the release that it believes that nine children under 3 years old drowned after gaining access to the pools via compression straps that wrap around the outside of the product between 2007 and 2022.
