Billy Joel surprised a pedicab driver in New York City recently, creating a memorable moment for both the driver and his passengers. The incident occurred when the driver was playing Joel's classic song, "New York State of Mind," while transporting two female passengers.

As the pedicab rolled through the streets, Joel drove by in a nearby vehicle. He recorded a video of the encounter, capturing the moment he waved to the driver. Initially unaware of who was greeting him, the driver said, "Next time," before realizing it was the iconic musician. Once he recognized Joel, he exclaimed, "Oh, Nice. You see, we are playing you, man." The driver then requested a photo, and Joel flipped the camera to show the inside of the pedicab. He captioned the post, "We’re in a New York State of Mind…always."

A fan later shared another video of the moment on social media, showing the driver taking a photo of his passengers while Joel remained in his vehicle.

In May, Joel revealed he had been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain disorder that can affect vision, hearing, and balance. He reassured fans about his health, stating, "I know a lot of people are worried about me and my health, but I’m okay. What I have is something very few people know about, including me, no matter how much you try to research it. I’m doing my best to work with it and to recover from it."

Joel described the diagnosis as "disturbing" but emphasized that he is managing well. "It was scary, but I’m okay," he said. "I just wanted to let people know, don’t worry about me being deathly ill or anything."

The 76-year-old musician is also featured in the upcoming HBO documentary, "Billy Joel: And So It Goes," where he discusses his life and career. He expressed his reluctance to share personal stories, saying, "I’ve resisted this kind of thing for so long. I’m sick of talking about myself. Some of the stupid stuff I did, that’s painful to talk about."

Despite his health challenges, Joel remains optimistic. He mentioned on a recent podcast that he feels "fine" and described his balance issues as feeling "like being on a boat." He noted that while the condition is serious, it is treatable and sometimes reversible.

Joel's unexpected encounter with the pedicab driver highlights the connection he maintains with his fans, even amid personal struggles.
