PHOENIX — Representative Yassamin Ansari says the Department of Homeland Security denied her access to a scheduled visit at the Eloy Detention Center over the weekend, less than 24 hours before her visit. A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security said that claim is false.

In a release, Ansari states that she complied with new rules implemented by ICE in May of this year for oversight visits to the immigration detention center and was approved for access. However, that access was denied by DHS without a reason.

Ansari said her planned visit was prompted by further complaints from families of detainees about the condition of the facility and lack of medical care.
