VALPARAISO — A judge has rejected a proposed plea agreement that called for no more than three years behind bars for a 35-year-old Michigan City man, who pleaded guilty to child solicitation and possession of child pornography charges.
Porter Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Clymer tossed out by plea by Daniel Strauss and scheduled a status hearing in the case for Aug. 20, according to the court.
Strauss had pleaded guilty a month ago in return for prosecutors dropping a few of the charges against him and agreeing to cap the potential sentence, records show. The proposal called for him to register as a sex offender and comply with those strict regulations if the proposed plea agreement is accepted.
