Police have charged a former Blair County Deputy Treasurer with stealing nearly $18,000 that she used to gamble.

Brenda Ann Bryan, 58, of Altoona, is charged with felony theft after police said she confessed to taking the money back in February.

The Altoona Mirror reported that on Feb. 25, Hollidaysburg Borough police were called to the courthouse where they were told that Bryan had admitted to taking the money when she came in for work.

Police then spoke with Bryan, who accompanied them to the police department, where she admitted to taking cash intended for deposit between December 2024 and February.

As evidence, Bryan turned over a number of deposit slips she had kept from a blue bank deposit bag she had with her. She kept them so she remembered how much she owed, the Mirror repor
