SAN DIEGO (Border Report) -- Two gunmen ambushed a police officer outside his house Thursday night in the Baja beach community of Rosarito, according to a police investigation.

The officer was reportedly arriving home after his assigned shift when the suspects opened fire, striking him at least once and riddling his truck with bullets.

A car parked nearby was also struck by several stray bullets.

Investigators say two weapons were recovered at the scene including "long weapon" and a Glock handgun, which are now being traced and analyzed.

No motive for the shooting has been established.

The officer, only described as a 39-year-old, was taken to a hospital where he remains in stable condition. He is expected to survive.

No other details surrounding the incident have been made public.
