NEWARK - An eight-story, 426-unit mixed-use development has been approved for the Central Ward, after the applicant was asked to go back to the drawing board to make the residential building more inclusive and aesthetically pleasing.

The Newark Central Planning Board approved the mixed-use development site plans, proposed by 348 Morris Holdings LLC, in an 8-0 vote on Monday night. It will span 348-370 Morris Ave. and 261 Bruce St., which are currently vacant lots.

The location was the former home of Clinton Milk & Co., the last milk distributor to operate out of Newark.

The building will be situated next to the commercial district along Springfield Avenue and three blocks from Rutgers Medical School.
