The Family Support Center for the Clark County School District serves all families regardless of immigration status, asking clients only about English competency levels, desired classes and household size — and center director Cindy Flores wants to keep it that way.

With the hard rightward turn in the White House and its focus on high-profile immigration enforcement nationwide, the center saw a drop in participation this year, Flores said.

“We want families to continue to feel safe coming to the center,” Flores said, emphasizing that CCSD doesn’t track student and family immigration status, a policy that extends to adult and family programs.

That commitment became especially important earlier this year when the center saw decreased participation following President Donald Trump’s focus
