Fillet of beef and fondant potato at Skein in Nottingham
Skein is one of those restaurants that whenever I mention it the response is "oh, that's how you pronounce it". I've heard all sorts... the most common is 'Skiin' but it's nothing to do with gliding down snowy slopes.
The correct way to say it is 'Sk-ay-n'. The word means a flock of geese in a V formation (tying in nicely with its location on Goose Gate). It also means a length of thread of yarn and a single part of a greater whole.
