A GoFundMe for a 31-year-old New Jersey man killed in a work zone accident on the Atlantic City Expressway has raised more than $58,000 as of Monday, July 28.
Dominick Tarsitano, of Egg Harbor Township, was working in a construction zone in Winslow Township when he was struck by a truck around 7 a.m. on Friday, July 25, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan.
“Preliminary findings show the operator of an attenuator truck was backing up to collect cones from a shoulder closure and did not realize Tarsitano was behind the vehicle,” Marchan said. “Tarsitano was struck and died.”
The incident remains under investigation. No additional information was available as of Sunday afternoon.
As news of his death spread, the community began rallying around Tarsitano’s family.
“There are no words to describe the pain and heartbreak our family is experiencing,” wrote Olivia Swishe, who launched the fundraiser. “Dominick was more than just a son, grandson, brother, cousin, and friend — he was the glue that held us all together.”
The campaign describes Dominick as “the oldest grandchild,” someone who “carried a unique role with so much pride and love.” It says his “laughter, warmth, and kind soul left a mark on everyone who knew him.”
Friends who created the fundraiser said it was the least they could do for the Tarsitano family.
“Danny and Jamie took us all under their wing as we grew up… They love this community and are forever grateful.”
“Every dollar raised is going directly to the family to help give Dominick the funeral and memorial he so deeply deserves,” the fundraiser says. “He was the heart of so many people’s lives — kind, genuine, and full of light.”
