Over $1 million in paused money in federal grants have now been released and are expected to be dispersed for education in Santa Cruz County, after a weeks-long freeze by the Trump administration that threw a major wrench in budgeting plans for school districts and the county.

The money, which had been allocated by Congress in six federal grant programs to school districts across the country, was withheld on July 1 as the Department of Education reviewed it to ensure the grants are aligned with President Donald Trump’s priorities. Last week, one of the grants for after-school funding was released , and on Friday afternoon the remaining five grants followed. ×
