The historic courthouse in downtown Nogales is full of life. With renovations complete and student art lining every wall, the County School Superintendent’s Office has taken over the whole space, making the most out of the landmark building. But one room now stays empty and shut: Alfredo Velasquez’s old office at the end of the hall on the second floor. Nobody’s had the nerve to move in there just yet.
When Velasquez, who retired early last month, opened the door to his long-time office on Tuesday morning, he sighed deeply and gazed out the windows. ×
