PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Gov. Pritzker signed two bills into law Monday morning aimed at boosting gun safety in Illinois.
The first is the Safe Gun Storage Act , which requires gun owners to lock up weapons when minors or at-risk people are in the home. If a court finds a person violated the law, they could be fined up to $10,000 and required to perform community service.
The second is aimed at helping police trace stolen weapons during investigations. This law requires every police agency to use a federal tracing system to help determine how a gun was obtained.
Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton said these laws focus on eliminating risks where possible.
