WALKER CO., Ala. ( WBRC ) - As more people are indicted in connection to Tony Mitchell’s death, residents are sharing their frustrations with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

While they are glad to be seeing more people held accountable for the abuse against Mitchell two and a half years ago , they say they’re also fed up with the lack of accountability at the top.

Parrish Mayor Jared “Bubba” Cagle says he knows some of the officers now indicted have been honored instead of reprimanded. Some were promoted, awarded employee of the month, even sent to the police academy during this investigation.

Now that the courts have identified at least 20 people involved in this case, Cagle says it’s concerning around a quarter of the jail staff have taken part in a culture of abuse.
