BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - New findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show vaccine coverage among kindergartners nationwide is down, but the opposite is true in Alabama.

The latest numbers are from the 2024-2025 school year. They show nationwide, only about 92% of incoming kindergartners got all their vaccines while more than 95% were fully vaccinated in Alabama. That’s the highest in over a decade.

During the 2011-2012 school year, nearly 94% of kindergartners were up-to-date on their shots. We had a big dip during the 2019-2020 school year: only 87% of those kids fully vaccinated, but it popped right back up the following year. During the 2024-2025 school year, between 95-98% were covered.
