(CNN) - Attorneys for Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s former girlfriend, are urging the Supreme Court to take up her pending appeal and overturn her sex trafficking conviction.
Maxwell’s attorneys claim she was shielded from prosecution by an agreement Epstein made with federal authorities to plead guilty. The case was originally filed with the Supreme Court in April.
“This case is about what the government promised,” Maxwell’s attorneys told the justices in a new brief.
The brief filed Monday also appealed to President Donald Trump “to recognize how profoundly unjust it is to scapegoat Ghislaine Maxwell for Epstein’s crimes.”
While on a trip abroad, Trump was asked about pardoning Maxwell, something he didn’t rule out.
