OHIO – Aspire Energy Express, a subsidiary of Delaware-based Chesapeake Utilities, along with American Electric Power have formed a new partnership to support a data center’s energy needs in central Ohio.

The $10 million investment will provide for the construction of a natural gas pipeline to benefit a fuel-cell facility which will then provide on-site electricity for the data center by converting the gas to electricity, according to company representatives. Chesapeake Utilities expects the project to be operational by the first half of 2027.

The center itself will support the growing demand for electricity as more people begin using artificial intelligence technology, which requires a large amount of computing power, data storage and cooling capabilities for those devices.
