In a world of algorithms and music so niche it’s often a subgenre of a subgenre of a subgenre, Pearl Alley is a breath of fresh, riff-ridden air. This five-piece blues-rock band hails from San Jose and features the bold vocals of singer Suzanne St. John-Crane and her shredder, guitarist husband, Dave Crane. St. John-Crane’s voice is a cross between Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt, but also sprinklings of Tina Turner that can clearly be heard when she holds those high notes. Of course, no blues band is complete without a killer rhythm section to hold it down, and Pearl Alley’s Pamela Arthur, Dennis Dove and Douglas Mancini do just that.
