SUMMERDALE, Ala.. (WKRG) — A call from the emergency room alerted law enforcement that something had gone terribly wrong at a soccer game in Summerdale on July 19.

"From the best that we can tell, it was an unprovoked attack," said Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery. "The victim was stabbed multiple times with a knife."

Jefferson Lopez-Tinoco, 23, a Honduran national, is now in custody and charged with attempted murder.

The soccer game took place on a field on private property, off County Road 49.

Sheriff's investigators said two players got into a fight, and Tinoco, who was a spectator, decided to break up that fight with a knife.

"He was stabbed in the neck and in the back along the spine," said Lowery.
