ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A stretch of the Indiana Toll Road was closed for about two hours Tuesday as the result of a crash involving a semi and a truck hauling a boat and an empty trailer.

The crash happened just before 4:15 p.m. east of Bristol in Elkhart County near the LaGrange County border according to a news release from Indiana State Police.

The preliminary investigation determined that a semi heading east was exiting a truck lot and was accelerating to get up to speed when a flatbed pickup loaded with a boat and hauling an empty trailer hit the semi from behind. Police believe the semi had its flashers on.

The crash caused extensive damage to the front of the pickup. The driver, Michael Maurer, 39, of Burlington, WI, was trapped inside and had to be extricated. Maurer was tr
