FAIRFAX, Va. — A number of burglaries at vape shops across Fairfax County are drawing concern from law enforcement, as some are tied to a controversial herbal product known as kratom.
Fairfax County Police say 23-year-old David Elliot is behind recent burglaries , including two at Star Tobacco on Braddock Road, where investigators say he smashed his way in to steal kratom products during overnight horus.
Police recovered a large number of these items from his home, linking him to a string of thefts that include three similar cases in the City of Fairfax.
"This is new to us," said Deputy Chief Gregory Fried. "We’ve had 14 vape shop burglaries this year. Some have been repeat locations. Kratom is definitely a growing concern, especially as we’ve seen it become a target for theft."
