NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A western Nebraska school superintendent was found not guilty of child abuse in Frontier County District Court.

A jury acquitted Maywood superintendent Mark Bejot, 65, of those charges Tuesday.

According to court documents, the charges stem from an incident with a student last October after a mother reported that Bejot asked her son to remove his cowboy hat, a violation of the school dress code, when a physical altercation resulted in her son being thrown to the floor.

The affidavit said surveillance footage showed Bejot approached the woman’s son and said something to him. The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office said the student took off the hat and held it to his side before Bejot then leaned in closer and continued to say something to him.
