NEWARK - Approval of several subdivisions for vacant lots in Newark residential neighborhoods has raised questions by the public and planning board officials about what kind of development might be coming to these properties.

Three minor subdivisions were approved by the Newark Central Planning Board meeting on Monday, July 21, which prompted discussion from the board about its ability to field future development, as well as questions from one resident about potential “spot zoning.”

Under the city zoning code, minor subdivision approval is required from the Central Planning Board for lots where the official lot line has to be altered for the purpose of dedication, sale of land or creation of a new lot.
