GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) -- Darlington Raceway leaders gathered in Greenville to discuss the race and the importance of their campaign, “Sober or Slammer.”

Since 1950, people from all over South Carolina have made the trip to Darlington Raceway. While the tradition hasn’t changed, event organizers, racers, and law enforcement want to make sure one message remains clear for the weekend.

Darlington Raceway announcer Dan E. Lockemy called it, “The track too tough to tame, Darlington Raceway.”

The egg-shaped oval track and narrow turns make Darlington Raceway one of the most unique and challenging tracks NASCAR drivers face each year.

Governor Henry McMaster said that the raceway is unique, and that there is no raceway like it.

“There is not another place like it in the country," McMaster
