EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Governor JB Pritzker is expected to expand mental health support for students across Illinois on Thursday.

The governor is set to sign legislation at about 1 p.m. at Chute Middle School in Evanston.

The new law will bring universal mental health screenings to public schools starting in the 2027 school year.

Students from third grade through senior year of high school will be offered a yearly screening, with tools provided to districts at no cost.
