GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Meijer employee has died after a fall at the store in Mount Pleasant.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirms a 59-year-old employee was unloading a semi-truck trailer when he fell and hit his head. The fall happened July 22. MiOSHA says the employee died July 28 at a hospital.
The employee was later identified as Gene Ketchum, who had worked with Meijer for more than 30 years.
Meijer gave a statement to ABC12 in Flint, saying: “We are deeply saddened by Gene’s passing. He was a long-time Meijer team member and friend to many. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all the Meijer team members who knew and cared for him. We take workplace safety seriously and are saddened by this unfortunate accident.”
