A man who was arrested in a Treme shooting that closed North Claiborne Avenue at St. Ann Street during rush hour was identified by the New Orleans Police Department Thursday morning.

Johnte Nelson, 25, was booked into the Orleans Parish jail Wednesday night on a count of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery, according to online jail records.

Police said Nelson and the victim were in a physical fight inside Nelson's vehicle when Nelson exited the car, re-entered and fired two shots at the victim.

Police responded to the shooting at 4:41 p.m. and Nelson was taken into custody. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

Police said the victim was still hospitalized as of Thursday morning.
