CONCORD — Three masked suspects did a smash-and-grab robbery at a Sunvalley Mall jewelry kiosk Wednesday, pepper spraying an employee and making off with handfuls of merchandise, authorities said.

The suspects were still being sought Thursday.

The brazen robbery happened just after 2 p.m. Wednesday and caused shoppers in the area to scatter.

Three masked suspects with sledge hammers smashed glass display cases at a Jewelry Time kiosk on the second level of the mall near the Sears store, with each of them grabbing handfuls of different kinds of jewelry, authorities said. Exactly what was taken and the amount of the loss has not been released.

One of the suspects also pepper sprayed a kiosk employee, who was taken to a hospital for treatment, Concord police Lt. Robert Garcia said.
