The AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers , in an effort to bolster its weakest link for a World Series run, are finalizing a trade to acquire closer Kyle Finnegan from the Washington Nationals for two minor leaguers, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Thursday.

Finnegan is the second veteran reliever added by the Tigers in the past 24 hours, joining Paul Sewald , who was acquired from the Cleveland Guardians late Wednesday night.

The Nationals received right-handers Josh Randall and RJ Sales in the deal as they remain busy ahead of Thursday's 6 p.m. ET trade deadline. Washington has traded five players in four different deals since Friday as the organization pushes to convert veterans into lottery tickets for their ongoing rebuild.
