Woman hospitalized after trying to rescue granddaughter in waters off Carova is ‘doing okay’

The woman hospitalized after trying to help a child struggling in the waters off Carova on July 23 reports that she was released from Sentara Norfolk the next morning and is “doing okay, but [is] still…a bit overwhelmed by everything that happened.” She added that “a long recovery” lies ahead.

Tanya Beach, 51, told the Voice that rather than attempting to rescue two children, as was reported at the time, there was only one child—her granddaughter—involved in the situation. She also reported that her granddaughter “is perfectly fine.”
