Looking for an upgrade behind the plate Preller sent right-handed pitchers Stephen Kolek and Ryan Berget to the Royals for catcher Freddy Fermin, a backup who's finally going to get his chance to be the everyday starter.

Fermin is an upgrade over Elias Diaz and Martin Maldonado both at the plate and behind it.
