It’s been 30 years since Sugar Ray released its first album, and things have been pretty “Fly” ever since for the band from Newport Beach, Calif.
Led by frontman Mark McGrath — and still including original guitarist Rodney Sheppard — Sugar Ray has a track record of seven albums that have yielded hits such as the aforementioned “Fly,” the band’s breakthrough in 1997, along with “Every Morning,” “Someday” and “When It’s Over.” McGrath, meanwhile, has become an entertainment force in his own right, as a host on the syndicated “Extra,” a guest judge on “American Idol,” a contestant on “The Masked Singer” and host of the docuseries Dark Side of the 200s.” He also has a long-running show on SiriusXM’s 90s channel.
This summer the group — whose last album, “Lil Yachty,” came out during 2019 — i
